The story

This YT-1300 light freighter was originally purchased in 16 BBY by Palin Hanson, as mobile base of operations for the mercenary group that he had just created. Palin was a skilled mechanic that even had started studying engineering before he decided to earn credits the easy way and became a mercenary, so he performed any reparations and maintenance the ship needed with R2-C9, an astrodroid he purchased to help him with the ship.

Honoring its name, the ship traveled all around the galaxy. Wherever there was a job with a big payment, there was the Distant Horizon with Palin's team aboard. Although space battles were not their speciality, it saw quite a lot of action and the turrets were among the pieces better cared of the ship.

In 8 BBY Palin was killed during a raid against a rodian clan in Nar Shadaa that wasn't respecting the hutt's rule. Lyd'en Mah'dan, second in charge of the mercenaries, became then the owner of the Distant Horizon.

The ship experienced quite a change in the hands of Lyd'en. She was a pure mercenary with little care for order, and the Distant Horizon soon became flooded with crates, spare pieces and weapons. The ship looked dirty but she never cared as long as it could keep flying. Also, without Palin R2-C9 became the only one able to repair and keep the systems in good condition, but it has always done an excellent keeping the Distant Horizon in perfect condition.

Tyram Mah'dan became the owner during 4 ABY after the rest of the mercenary group was killed by tusken raiders, but not seeing the need of a freighter since he had become a solo operative he sold the the Distant Horizon. It then started serving the Rebel Alliance, although he didn’t knew it when he sold the ship. The Distant Horizon’s resident astrodroid, R2-C9 was sold along with the ship.

The ship

The Distant Horizon is almost a basic YT-1300f, it has received few important modifications over the years, apart from an improved hyperdrive unit and better armament. The three cargo holds are used as bedroom, dinning room and storage, although usually all three are full of crates piled with little order. It features two laser turrets and a single proton torpedo launcher. Despite the age of the model and the impression of lack of order and politeness it causes, under that it's as solid as every YT series freighter and its engine and systems have always been treated with care.
