The unit's origins traced back to a group of guerilla fighters attached to Kyle Katarn in the early years of his post-mercenary involvement with the Rebel Alliance. Following the defection of Crix Madine, the newly appointed Alliance Military General set about creating Special Operations Commando Units for the Alliance in a similar vein to that of the Imperial Storm Commandos.
Having been impressed with Katarn's abilities, Madine approached the Mercenary with a permanent position within the Alliance as part of his Spec-Ops Commandos Directive. Initially Katarn refused however after much diliberation with his partner Jan Ors, Kyle Katarn finally accepted.
The first ever Commando Unit formed by Crix Madine, they would prove to be one of the Alliance's most successful Units, having been instrumental in ending the Darktrooper Project.

This Organisation is used within a Dune Sea Desperadoes Plots and is so part of the SEAverse of Star Wars lore.
In the SEAverse, the Organisations history may run a different course to that of canon or the EU.
